ADOPTED 2024

NAME: BRUNO
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male
AGE: Born 9/23/23 WEIGHT: 50# (approx)
COLOR: Silver Brindle, docked and cropped

BIO: Bruno was surrendered after the unexpected demise of his owner. Bruno gets along great with larger dogs, or dogs his own size. Because he is so young and still "puppy brained", he is a little too much for smaller or older dogs to handle. He just wants someone to play with and he is just so full of pent up energy. Bruno is very playful and can run like the wind. Bruno is UTD on all vaccinations, micro-chipped, heart worm tested and on heartworm preventative. Bruno is house-trained and knows some basic commands. It would be very beneficial to everyone if Bruno was properly trained and/or enrolled in obedience classes. He does walk fairly well on a leash, but there is always room for improvement. Bruno is looking for a family that is active, willing to play with him and able to keep up with him. We do not recommend that he be around young children unless properly supervised. He is so active that he inadvertantly could "body check" a younger child. Bruno also tends to be quite "mouthy" and likes to mouth your hand and/or fingers to get your attention. Bruno is still intact. It has been highly recommended by Bouvier breeders and by veterinarians, that Bouviers NOT be spayed or neutered prior to being 2 years old. This is due to the fact that their growth plates have not been properly developed yet. Therefore, an enforceable neuter contract and additional deposit will have to be put into place in order to adopt him. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard (not electric or invisible) in order to adopt any of our rescues. Probably not good with cats. Bruno is currently being fostered in Imlay City, Michigan.

**UPDATE: Bruno was adopted 9/28/24 by a wonderful family in Grand Blanc, MI. Bruno not only has a new Mom and Dad, but also has a 4yo Bouvier sister. The family came out for a couple of meet & greets, everyone got along great, and Bruno got to go home with his new family.

NAME: CHEWIE
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 12/26/19
WEIGHT: 90#
COLOR: Gray brindle, docked and cropped

REVISED BIO: Chewie was surrendered by his Dad due to his new work schedule not allowing appropriate time to spend with him. Regretfully, Chewie was frequently left alone and kept in a crate in the garage. He did not have a fenced in yard, so the only activity he had was at the end of a leash. Needless to say, when we took him into our facility, he thought he had died and gone to heaven. He had a huge indoor/outdoor kennel run with direct access to a half acre completely fenced in area. When we first got him and he felt the freedom, we had a hard time coaxing him to come indoors. Sun, snow, cold, wind, rain, it didn’t matter to him. Then, once he saw that when he came in he had food and water and got all kinds of lovin’ from his Foster Mom – he realized that it wasn’t such a bad deal after all. Chewie is a big boy and we did get a little weight off him that we feel was the result of his previous sedentary life. He came in at 115# and with the proper food and exercise, he is now a svelte 90#. We also had his thyroid tested, just in case, but it was fine. Chewie is house and crate trained, but we have our paws crossed the crating will no longer be necessary in his new home. Chewie walks fine on a leash and excellent with a harness. Chewie appears to be especially close to women. He is good with men, but is very cautious if they are wearing a hat or hoodie. We found out that Chewie is NOT afraid of thunderstorms, but that that he does not like exceptionally loud noises or loud voices (who does?). He was a really big hit at the vet’s office when we took him in. Because of his size, we would not recommend he be around young children. He could easily knock them down and accidently harm them. He doesn’t appear to have a problem with other dogs. The foster Mom has taught him the basic commands. He does know that when he comes in to eat he has to sit before his food is put down. Considering his size, surprisingly, Chewie takes treats from your hand so very gently. So, if you are looking for that special someone in your life, look no further, he could be your guy. He absolutely loves to play and really loves to be loved on and cuddled with. You MUST have a completely fenced and secure yard, preferably 6ft fencing, in order to be considered. Chewie is UTD on all vaccinations, micro-chipped and registered, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea & tick preventative. We are looking for that special someone that has been previously owned by a Bouvier. Someone that understands and can appreciate what a gem Chewie really is. Someone that will not be leaving him for extended periods on a daily basis. Chewie is at our facility in Imlay City, MI. Not cat friendly.

**UPATE: Chewie was adopted 6/3/24 by a very loving gentleman in Harrison Township, MI. Chewie not only gained a Forever Dad, but also a Forever Bouvier Brother named Phred. This was a match made in heaven. Chewie needed them to heal his broken heart, as much as they needed him to heal theirs. Such a rewarding day for everyone.

**UPDATE: Adopted

NAME: MOTOMOTO
BREED: Doberman Pinscher
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 8/7/19
WEIGHT: 102#
COLOR: Blue, docked & cropped

BIO: Well, hello there! My name is MotoMoto. Because of my coloring, I was named after the gray Hippopotamus in a Pixar movie. I was surrendered due to the sudden passing of my elderly Mom. My elderly Dad was so beside himself that he didn’t feel he could properly take care of me like my Mom did. When I was surrendered, I weighed 123# and I did resemble the animal I was named after ? Due to the proper care and vetting that was done by the rescue, it was discovered that I had hypothyroidism, which is quite common in larger dogs, and causes dogs (just like people) to gain extra weight and lose some of their hair in blotches. This is a very treatable and inexpensive disease to have. Two small pills a day and I am good to go. I am a big and strong boy. I am not a barker, but I do love to “talk” to get my point across. I am great with young adults (not toddlers due to my size). Although I get along and/or tolerate other dogs and have been around cats at the rescue they feel I would be best as an “only child”. I really miss my Mom and didn’t have to share her with another dog. After losing her so suddenly, I am just looking for that one on one bond that I had before. I am beautifully docked and cropped and very low maintenance. I am house trained, clean, kennel well, don’t mind having my nails clipped and walk fairly well on a leash. My caregiver, vet and everyone that has met me think I am a fantastic dog. I do love to be around people and to be loved and petted. I love, love, love snuggling, going for walks and car rides. I do not have an aggressive bone in my body. I am perfectly happy just laying at your feet while you watch TV. The rescue is looking for a family that knows and/or has had Dobermans in the past. Dobermans are not for everyone. Some tend to think they are smarter than their owners ? (Regrettably, some are ?). So, if you are looking for a loving and devoted friend, I am sure I could be that guy. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm tested, on preventative and micro-chipped. I am currently being fostered in Imlay City, MI. You MUST have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Moto was adopted 2/17/24 by a wonderful woman in Waterford, MI. Moto appeared to bond with her immediately, as well as with her friend that came out with her. I am sure Moto will be the loving companion she was looking for.

NAME: OTTO
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 7/9/16
WEIGHT: 80#?
COLOR: Light gray brindle, docked, natural ears

**COURTESY POST ONLY - OTTO IS LOCATED IN ELKHART, IN. All interested parties must contact: laceyncurry@gmail.com**

Otto is a 7 year old male Bouvier des Flandres (born 7-9-16). Otto gets along with female Bouviers, but wants to be the only male. Otto has rally and obedience titles, but hasn't done anything in quite some time. Otto is a quick learner though. Otto has quite the personality and loves to have fun. He is sound sensitive and doesn't like loud noises or thunder. Otto is house and crate trained. Currently, Otto has seasonal flank alopecia, but his hair is growing back with melatonin and thyroid medication. A completely fenced and secure yard is required. Otto is very sweet. NAME: ROOSTER (RooRoo)
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres (AKC)
GENDER: Female (must be spayed)
AGE: Born 8/20/23
WEIGHT: 35#
COLOR: Probably a dark Fawn/Brindle, natural ears, docked tail

**If interested, please fill out and submit an on-line application on our website: secondchancebouvrescue.com in order to be considered**

ROOSTER IS BEING FOSTERED NEAR HARRISBURG, PA. She is from a litter of nine puppies born 8/20/23. She as well as some, or all, of her siblings were dealt a sad hand when born, she is visually impaired. We took her and her three sisters to an eye specialist near Norristown, PA on 1/16/24. They were all thoroughly examined and all have juvenile cataracts. Rooster was also fully examined and received all of her vaccinations, is on heartworm preventative as well as flea and tick preventatives. She will have to be spayed as soon as medically feasible. A binding Spay Contract will be put into effect. We do not want to take the chance of passing on her conditions to any FUTURE puppies. Rooster was very underweight when surrendered but is now a normal weight. She eats about 4 cups of food a day and eats best when sharing the same bowl with her sister, because previously they were being fed in side-by-side crates and they wouldn’t eat. She is losing her baby teeth and now getting her adult teeth. She still has her fluffy, puppy fur. Rooster is quite active. She loves running around the backyard with play dates – adult Bouviers and a Collie. The puppies play in the backyard daily with each other. Rooster is more vocal of the two. She will bark if they encounter another dog, or if she hears a noise or barking farther away. She likes riding in the car. She is very friendly and willingly warms up to petting and cuddles.

ROOSTER HAS PERIPHERAL VISION (small cataracts in the center of each of her eyes)
Rooster pulls forward and she is getting pretty good at walking on a leash. She warms up to new people and will come for petting. Both puppies get walked twice a day for a mile each time. The puppies are kept in very large side-by-side crates when left alone, which isn’t very often. They have full-run of the family room, breakfast nook, kitchen and laundry area. (Sometimes she sneaks into the dining room, and you will find her chilling on the big dog mattress on the floor). She has not completely figured out steps yet. The steps are still a pretty big deal for her. It's a big step down if you can't see well. That is why having an adopter with a single level home is ideal. We REQUIRE a completely fenced and secure yard for her. Bouviers are not for everyone, especially one with special needs like she has. We are looking for that special person with Bouvier experience and/or with vision impaired dog knowledge.

**SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY --- NO YOUNG CHILDREN --- PLEASE AND THANK-YOU**

**UPDATE: Rooster (Roo Roo) was adopted 3/12/24 by his very loving foster Mom in Middletown, PA. Rooster gets along fantastic with the two adult Bouviers. It's just one big happy family.

NAME: SALUTE (renamed Angel
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres (AKC)
GENDER: Female (must be spayed)
AGE: Born 8/20/23
WEIGHT: 30#+
COLOR: Pale Gray Fawn, natural ears, docked tail

**If interested, please fill out and submit an on-line application on our website: secondchancebouvrescue.com in order to be considered**

SALUTE IS BEING FOSTERED NEAR HARRISBURG, PA. She is from a litter of nine puppies born 8/20/23. She as well as some, or all, of her siblings were dealt a sad hand when born, she is visually impaired. We took her and her three sisters to an eye specialist in Norristown, PA on 1/16/24. They were all thoroughly examined and all have juvenile cataracts. Salute was fully examined and received all of her vaccinations, is on heartworm preventative as well as flea and tick preventatives. She will have to be spayed as soon as medically feasible. A binding Spay Contract will be put into effect. We do not want to take the chance of passing on her conditions to any FUTURE puppies. Salute was very underweight when surrendered and is working very hard on growing and gaining weight. She was surrendered about a month after her sister, Rooster, so has a little catching up to do as far as her weight. She eats about 4 cups of food a day and eats best when sharing the same bowl, because previously they were being fed in side-by-side crates and they wouldn’t eat. She is losing her baby teeth and now getting her adult teeth. She still has her fluffy, puppy fur. She likes riding in the car. Salute is friendly but a bit more hesitant and reserved. She will cautiously warm up to petting and cuddles.

SALUTE HAS LACK OF DEPTH PERCEPTION (one large cataract in one eye)

. When they walk, loud noises and vehicles confuse her and she gets scared and sits down. She doesn’t know what it is and where it is. Salute has the most beautiful gait. She is quite active. Salute runs around in circles when walking on leash with her sister. She walks better if taken separately or one small puppy and one big dog. Walked together, she just wants to play, not walk. Both puppies get walked twice a day for a mile each time. She runs around in the backyard with play dates – adult Bouviers and a Collie. The puppies play in the backyard daily with each other. Salute is not as vocal as her sister. If she hears a loud noise or barking farther away she circles or sits, and tries to find a safe place to hide. The puppies are kept in very large side-by-side crates when left alone, which isn’t very often. They have full-run of the family room, breakfast nook, kitchen and laundry area. (Sometimes she sneaks into the dining room, and she is found chilling on the big dog mattress on the floor). She has not figured out steps yet. The steps are still a pretty big deal for her. **SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY --- NO YOUNG CHILDREN --- PLEASE AND THANK-YOU**

**UPDATE: Angel (formerly Salute) was adopted 3/10/24 by a very loving and active family in Crisfield, MD. Angel's meet & greet with her new Chiweenie "brother-by-another-mother", Colt, went very well.

NAME: STORMY (formerly Storm)
BREED: Listed as a Bouvier des Flandres mix
(now looks like a Labradoodle, once shaved down)
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 5/25/21
WEIGHT: 56.8#
COLOR: Black, docked tail natural ears

BIO: Stormy was picked up, along with her running mate, Tugboat, in Highland Park, MI. and transported to the Westland Humane Society. We are assuming they were the two Bouviers (?) that were running loose for a couple of months and they were finally caught. They were so severely matted they both had to be completely shaved down. Once shaved down, they were both skin and bones. Neither of them showed well at the shelter. They were so fearful that it was next to impossible to get them to trust you long enough to give treats or touch them. Miraculously, Tugboat was adopted when I went to the shelter to see them. It took a good hour of throwing treats and talking softly to get Stormy to take a treat out of my hand and gently steel a touch or pet her. Once I was able to pet her, she melted like butter and wanted to be petted non-stop. There were quite a few people there to meet Stormy, thankfully, I was able to pull her. I don’t feel Stormy was ever an indoor pet. You can tell she has had at least one litter. Most likely, Stormy and Tugboat were a backyard breeding pair. Stormy has a “joy stick” docking job on her tail, and still has her dew claws. She was not house trained and acted like she had never seen or heard a television. She is still afraid of her own shadow. I finally got her to play with toys, but she would only play with the “non-squeaky” ones. Stormy gets along well with other dogs and has started wanting to play with them. She is a “counter surfer”. Nothing is safe if it is closer than five feet to the ground. She is also very agile and can go into stealth mode if she doesn’t want you to know what she is up to. Stormy has been spayed, micro-chipped, heart worm tested and on heartworm preventative.

**UPDATE: Today, 6/18/24, was Stormy’s lucky day; I adopted her. Stormy has so much baggage that I don’t think she could go through another transition. As I have always done in the past, I adopt the ones that I am afraid will not adjust to another home, thru no fault of their own. I lost my beloved Greta this past January. Greta carried a lot of the same baggage that Stormy has. Hopefully, I can turn her around like I did Greta. Stormy has gained some weight and now LOVES playing with squeaky toys ?. Top pic is after I picked her up. Bottom pic is after being fed properly for a couple of weeks.

NAME: URSA
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (a spay/deposit contract will be required)
AGE: Born 8/29/23
WEIGHT: 50#?
COLOR: Fawn, docked and cropped

BIO: Ursa was tearfully surrendered by her Dad due to his health and inability to spend appropriate time with her. Because he requires dialysis treatments three times a week, it meant Ursa had to be left alone for five hours each day. Ursa is still a puppy and has so much love and energy, as much as it broke his heart, he unselfishly felt that getting her a home where she can play and thrive would be in her best interest. Ursa is completely house trained, UTD on all vaccinations, heart-worm negative and on monthly heart-worm and flea & tick preventative. Ursa sits and takes treats from your hand very gently. Ursa has a box full of toys and absolutely LOVES playing with each and every one of them. Ursa gets along great with other dogs. It would be fantastic if her new home had another dog her size to run and play with in the yard. She is not aggressive with smaller dogs, she just likes to play a little too rough for their liking. Due to her size, age and energy level, she would not be compatible with small animals or children. She could unintentionally knock them down and hurt them. Ursa needs a home with energetic people that will play and work with her. She walks fairly well on a leash, as long as there are no other distractions. She does not go up or down stairs in the house. She is perfectly happy laying at your feet while you are watching TV or on the computer. We are looking for that special someone that has been previously owned by a Bouvier. Someone that understands and that can appreciate and expand on Ursa’s full potential. I would personally adopt her in a heartbeat if I were younger and could keep up with her. You ABSOLUTELY MUST have a completely fenced and secure yard, preferably 6ft fencing, in order to be considered. Ursa is currently being fostered in Westland, MI. Probably too reactive and puppy-brained to be around cats at this time.

**UPDATE: Today, 6/9/24, was Ursa’s lucky day. She got to meet her new Forever Mom & Dad and to go home to Des Plains, IL to meet her new 2.5yro Bouvier brother named Tucker. Fantastic family. Checked ALL of our boxes plus some. It was instant love all the way around.
