ADOPTED 2011

NAME: Bear
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Approx. 8yro?
WEIGHT: 55#
COLOR: Black brindle, cropped ears, docked tail
BIO: Hello everyone, please meet Bear. Bear was found lying in a ditch in Memphis, MI. Bear is a very loving gentleman. He gets along great with other dogs and with people. He is house-trained, but should be crated when left alone for his own safety. When found, Bear had an injured rear foot which is being taken care. Bear is UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm and fecal negative. Bear is doing great and is very happy in his foster home. From the condition he was in when he was found, he obviously did not have the best of care or the love he deserved to have. This is a courtesy post for GPAAS (Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society). We have helped each other out in the past and would like to help them find a forever home for this gentle soul. Because they will not do any adoptions until after 1/8/2011 we wanted to get him up on our website to give him some exposure between the holidays. If you are interested in obtaining more info on Bear you can contact Corinne @ GPAAS 1-313-884-1551 , email her @ corinne@gpaas.comcastbiz.net, or you can fill out one of our applications and I would be more than happy to pass it on to her. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard to adopt any of our rescues.
**UPDATE: Bear was adopted 2/18/11 by a very loving family in Harrison Twp, MI. They had previously adopted a Bouvier from us in 2008 named Skye. Bear not only has a new forever Mom and Dad but also a Bouvier sister to keep him young and happy.

NAME: Bella
BREED: Australian Shepherd (purebred/miniature)
GENDER: Female (will need to be spayed)
AGE: born March 2011
COLOR: Beige, brown, white & black w/erect ears & docked tail
WEIGHT: aprox. 15#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Bella. I was purchased as a birthday present by my former owners boyfriend. My owner has decided to join the military and I have been living with her mother. Because her mother works two jobs she doesn’t feel she has the time to devote to raising a puppy. I am looking for a home that is in need of a loving and loyal companion and that has the time and energy to love and train me. I am crate-trained and house-trained. I will need to be spayed in a couple of months so a spay contract will be in effect for my adoption. I get along great with other dogs and cats. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am UTD on all my shots. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Bella was adopted 7/23/11 by a fantastic family in Westland, MI. Bella not only has a new Mom & Dad, but a brother named Bear (Rottie) & two cats.

NAME: BELLA
BREED: West Highland White Terrier
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: approx 5yro
COLOR: White
WEIGHT:
BIO: Hi there, my name is Bella. I was rescued by a good Samaritan from an animal shelter in June with the intention of finding me a home. This woman is very partial to terriers and thought I was just too good of a dog to be left in a shelter with an uncertain fate. My foster Mom has cats and two other dogs of her own and I get along just fine with all of them. I love th grand-kids, but because of my petite size should not be placed with children under 8yro. I love to play, snuggle and be loved on. I am UTD on all my vaccinations, heart-worm negative and on preventative. I am very calm for being a Westie. I never barked one time while at the groomers to get these pictures taken. I walk wonderfully on a leash. I am 99% house-trained and am working very hard to make it 100% and I am crate-trained. If you are looking to adopt a small, lovable dog - you can stop looking - I am available. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. Again, I AM cat friendly as long as your cat is DOG friendly :-). I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Bella was adopted 8/18/11 by a very loving family in Allen Park, MI. Bella not only has a new forever family but also has a new sister, Maggie (JRT mix) and two cats to keep her company. Here is a picture of Bella with her new sister, Maggie, on adoption day

NAME: Belle
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 4/23/09
WEIGHT: 75#
COLOR: Fawn, docked tail, natural ears
OWNDER SURRENDER: Ferndale, MI
BIO: Hi there, my name is Belle. I am being surrendered, along with my littermate/sister Lily, due to the health problems that my family has encountered. After a lot of soul searching our Mom and Dad decided that as hard as it would be on them to let us go - it would be better for us - and that is their main concern. They do not feel that they can properly exercise or train us because of their limitations. Because we are both still young we are very active and need the stimulation of a more active family. My Mom and Dad (as well as my sister and I) are desperately hoping that there is a family out there looking to adopt the two of us as a package. We have been together since birth (and even before that) and we are extremely bonded to each other. If absolutely necessary, we are young enough that in time we could adjust to being separated if you have another dog for my companion or you can keep me busy and occupied enough that I would not be lonely. I am very affectionate. I love attention, hugs and kisses. I am more outgoing than my sister Lily. I love to have my ears scratched. I love carrots (which we call cookies) for a treat. I know “sit, down, cookies (carrots) and crate“. I am house trained and crate trained. I did go to “puppy school” but really do need a refresher course in further training. I love to go for walks. I behave very well in the house - no chewing or jumping on furniture. I am both UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am not cat friendly.
**UPDATE: Belle was adopted 2/10/11 along with her sister Lily by one of the most caring and compassionate families I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They drove all the way up from Marlton, NJ, spent the night, and returned home with both their new babies. They called as soon as they got home and everyone made it safe & sound.

NAME: Brody
BREED: Great Dane
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 3/24/09
COLOR: Fawn w/dark muzzle (natural ears & tail)
WEIGHT: 145#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Brody. My former owner purchased me shortly after their other Great Dane passed away. I was surrendered to SCBR due to the economy and with both parents working they didn't have the appropriate amount of time and attention to give me. I either stayed in the back bedroom all the time or was on a tether outside. I am house trained and I get along well with older children (because of my size) and other dogs. I do not get along well with cats, and when I was at the groomers I was seriously eyeing her horses - so I should probably not be around livestock. I can't wait for my new forever home because I would LOVE a fenced yard to run freely in. I grew up with children from 10 to 18 years old and I get along great with everyone. I need someone that is familiar with my breed, size and strength. I do need a minimal amount of training - but I am not the least bit hyper or out of control. I sit on command, I shake and I have good manners. I also love to go for walks and really love to go for car rides. I love to play and walk fairly well on leash. I am UTD on all my vaccinations and heartworm negative. I am a very good boy with a very loving heart that is looking for a forever family to call my own. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI
**UPDATE: Brody was adopted 5/8/11 by a very loving and very savvy Great Dane family in Fraser, MI.

NAME: CAPTAIN
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born mid-September 2006
COLOR: Dark Gray Brindle, docked tail, cropped ears
WEIGHT: 125-130#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Captain. I was surrendered by my family because they are unable to find the time to control and/or maintain my poor skin condition. I am on a special dog food for sensitive skin and probably should be on some sort of medication to prevent “flare-ups”. I was purchased from a registered breeder and was raised from a puppy with three children who are currently 7, 9 and 11 years old. My family felt they were placed in a sad position having to admit that it would be in my best interest as well as theirs if I were able to find a family where I could receive the proper love, attention and care that I deserve to have. I am really an amazing boy. The children taught me to sit and shake. I love to play fetch with my favorite soccer ball. I only eat dog food and have never been given table scraps. I stay outside the dining room while my family eats and only enter once everyone has left keeping my paws crossed with hopes of finding a few morsels on the floor that may have fallen. I do not counter-surf and my family has always been able to leave food on the table knowing that I will not touch it. I am completely housetrained. I have been taught to ring a bell to go outside to the bathroom. The children are able to take me for a walk and I follow the basic commands: sit, stay, come, down, wait, etc. The decision has been extremely difficult for my entire family because they do feel that I am such a good boy and so young. They are hoping that I will be placed in a wonderful forever home that can manage my skin condition, give me the attention they wish they had time to give me, and a new forever home that will love me as much as they do. I get along great with older children, other dogs and people in general. So if you are looking for a fantastic friend and life-long and loving companion - look no further. With the proper care, food and medication my skin problem can be controlled and maintained. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventative. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI. I am not cat friendly. If you are interested in making room in your heart and home for me you must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: I was adopted 7/29/11 by my foster Mom in Westland, MI. Because of the extensive and expensive medical care and treatment that I required, the numerous trips back and forth to the dermatologist and the amount of time that would be required to get my condition under control she felt that since I had already bonded with her and the other rescued Bouviers she had that it wouldn't be fair to up-root me again. It was discovered that I did have a thyroid condition and have been put on life-time thyroid medication. My skin condition has been successfully arrested and as long as I am kept on proper food and medication there should not be a problem.

NAME: Charlie (renamed Bandit)
BREED: German Shorthaired Pointer
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born June 2010
COLOR: Liver on white
WEIGHT: Approx 40#
BIO: Hi, my name is Charlie. My former owner recognized that he cannot train and work with me due to health problems and up coming surgeries. I am currently about 40# but have a little more growing to do. I LOVE other dogs, toys, people in general. I am very active when I am outdoors and would be best suited in a home with another dog and an active family. I am by no means a "couch potato" I need to run, play and exercise on a daily basis. I have so much exuberance that I need to have physical stimulation in order to be properly enjoyed. I do have the intelligence, instinct and ability to be trained for hunting. I am house trained, UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative. They don't know how I would be with cats - I do tend to stay focused on them a little longer than they are comfortable with. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. Currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Adoption Pending - Grand Rapids, MI. Charlie is spoken for and will be picked up by his new forever family once he has recovered from his OCD surgery.
**UPDATE: Bandit (formerly Charlie) was adopted by a wonderful family in Grand Rapids, MI. Bandit not only has a new forever family but also has a new GSP brother, ironically his name IS Charlie, that is why our Charlie was renamed Bandit :-)

NAME: Cole
BREED: Labradoodle
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 12/28/08
COLOR: Black (natural ears & tail)
WEIGHT: 49#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Cole. I was surrendered to SCBR because of the allergies in my former family. I am house trained and crate trained. As a matter of fact, I sleep in my crate with the door open every night. I am good with children and other dogs. I have never been exposed to cats, so that is questionable. I am UTD on all my vaccinations and heartworm negative. I am a very good boy that is looking for a forever family to call my own. I love to play and walk fairly well on a leash. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Cole was adopted by a friend of the family.

NAME: Dusty
BREED: Lhasa Apso /Pekinese mix(?)
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Less than 1yro
COLOR: Beige & white w/black highlights
WEIGHT: approx 20#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Dusty and I was found running loose on a country road. Flyers were posted and put in mail boxes hoping my family would be looking for me - but to no avail. I get along great with other dogs 30# and over and people - but because of my breed(s) would not be suited for a family with young children. I am house-trained and crate-trained and have never had an “accident” in the house or crate. I have the body of a Lhasa Apso and the head of a Pekinese. I love to play and can be a real “whirl wind” if allowed. I am UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Dusty was adopted 8/10/11 by a very loving family in Sterling Hts, MI. Dusty not only has a new forever Mom & Dad but also a Pekinese brother named Samme to play and sleep with

NAME: Hallie
BREED: Boxer
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born February 2008
COLOR: Fawn & white w/black muzzle - docked tail, natural ears
WEIGHT: Approx 50#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Hallie. I am being surrendered by my family because they had to move from a house to an apartment and they don't feel it is fair to keep me in such cramped quarters. I am fantastic with children, I was only a year old when my family introduced me to their newborn son and we connected immediately and have been his companion and protector ever since. I am a very gentle and loving girl - I have never shown any aggression towards anyone or anything. I am house-trained and get along very well with other dogs. My family had a 12yro dachshund that was a little on the cranky side - but the two of us got along fantastically. I have never been around cats so it can only be assumed I will not be cat friendly. I am looking for a forever home and family that will enjoy my companionship and exercise and play with me. It breaks my family's heart to have to let me go but they only want what is best for me and for someone to be able to enjoy having me as their new friend and loving companion. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and not cat friendly. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Hallie was adopted 2/12/11 by a wonderful family in Allen Park, MI. Hallie not only has a new forever Mom & Dad, but a boxer brother named "Six".

NAME: India
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 8 years young
WEIGHT: 100+#
COLOR: Dark Gray Brindle w/white chest blaze, docked tail, cropped ears
OWNER SURRENDER: Grand Rapids, MI
BIO: Hi there, my name is India. I am being surrendered, along with my littermate/brother, Tucker, due to my family having to relocate to a much smaller place. We were both raised on a farm with lots of room to run and play and are now temporarily staying in a much smaller house with no yard to speak of. I am house trained and crate trained. I am healthy and do have some good years ahead of me to look forward to. I am a very loving girl. I like to lie on the bed and use a pillow. I am not overweight - just a little “over loved”. I whine when I need to go out - or sometimes I will just come over and take you by the sleeve and direct you to the door. I love to ride in the car and go for walks. I am fine with children as long as they don’t want to lay all over me. I get my teeth brushed every night and have no problem with that. I love toys that make a little noise, especially if you throw them for me to retrieve. I do very well at the vet and groomers. I am used to having my Mom & Dad around me 24/7 - but I do crate well if I need to be left for a while. I love to be with someone, whether it is cooking, eating (my favorite), sleeping or watching TV. I just need a family that is looking for a couple of fairly laid back Bouviers as their loving companions. My Mom and Dad (as well as my brother and I) are desperately hoping that there is a family out there looking to adopt the two of us as a package. We have been together since birth and we don’t feel we could transition very well if separated . We are already losing our Mom and Dad, plus we lost our huge farm that we loved to play on - all we have left is each other. We are both UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt us. **We have been trained to stay within the boundaries of an underground fence - so there is a slight possibility that if everything was right that the rescue would consider adopting us out to a family that could correctly and competently re-train us to their yard. We are not cat friendly.
**UPDATE: India & Tucker have both been taken in by another family member that they grew up with. If it doesn't work out - they will come back into rescue. Their Mom & Dad wants only what was best for both of them - and wanted to try and see if this would be their best option

NAME: Jake
BREED: Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)/Shiba Inu mix?
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 8 months old
COLOR: Black
WEIGHT: 18#
BIO: Hi, my name is Jake. I was found running stray along with my brother/companion Sebastian in Imlay City. We had been eating out of garbage cans for about three days when a kind soul picked us up and turned us over to the rescue. I am less secure and sure about myself than Sebastian is - I guess I would be the follower. Because of that it would be best if we were not adopted out together because I would be able to bond more quickly and form me own seperate personality. I am a little shy at first but it doesn't take long for my "cuddling" side to come out. The foster mom feels that there is a possibility that I am housetrained because I am very neat and clean in my crate. So I am getting a refresher course on that - just in case. I get along great with people, children and other dogs. I do find great pleasure in chasing cats - so I doubt that I would be considered cat friendly. My pictures are deceiving - I am only about 14" at the withers (size of a Beagle). I should weigh at least 25# when full grown. Right now I am skin and bones. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Jake was adopted 5/15/11 by a very special family in Ann Arbor, MI. This very caring family adopted three Beagles from three other rescues. One had prostate cancer and they kept him alive for an additional five years, one had heartworm and they had him treated and lived a long life and the last one they lost to cancer. This is a picture of Jake with his "new forever Mom" on adoption day. I don't know who looks happier :-)

NAME: Jazzie (Jasmine)
BREED: Black Labrador Retriever
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 8/28/10
COLOR: Black
WEIGHT: 33#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Jasmine - but my new family is going to call me Jazzie. I was found the day after Christmas in a sleet storm by a very loving woman in Indiana that has adopted other Bouviers from SCBR. She was outside with her dogs when she saw a black flash go darting by her - that was me! Once she secured her own dogs she went outside the gate and there I was a skinny, frozen, quivering, terrified puppy just waiting for someone to save me. I was welcomed with open arms and a warm loving heart by my guardian angel. She couldn't bear the thought of me being out in the weather so she was kind enough to take me in and try to find my owners. She tried with no success, suspecting that someone had probably gotten me for a Christmas present and decided they no longer wanted me and dropped me off to fend for myself. This kind woman loved me, fed me and nurtured me until I was healthy enough to adopted. It was a very heartwrenching decision for her to let me go. Because of her love, kindness and care I turned out to be a very grateful, obedient and loving little girl. I am now housetrained and crate trained. I LOVE people, children, other dogs and probably cats too.
**UPDATE: Jazzie was adopted 3/18/11 by a very loving family in Macomb, MI. This family has been anxiously awaiting Jazzie's arrival for almost two months. Due to the wild weather that we experienced between Indiana & Michigan every time she was supposed to be transported - the weather worked against us. Jazzie's foster Mom met the rescue in Tipp City, OH where they tearfully said their good-byes. Jazzie was fantastic on her long ride home - never made a peep. About an hour after Jazzie made it to SCBR Rescue in Michigan her new family came to pick her up. It was love at first sight. Jazzie met her new family with love and kisses. We loaded her up with all the "goodies" her foster Mom sent and she rode off into the sunset smiling from ear to ear. Jazzie now is in her new forever home with her new forever family and has a new forever brother named Levi as a companion.

NAME: Mater
BREED: Labrador Retriever-Black (purebred)
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 10/15/10
COLOR: Black
WEIGHT: approx 55#
BIO: Well hello there, my name is Mater. I am a purebred Lab and was purchased from a breeder in Michigan. I was named after the Disney character Tow Truck in the movie Cars by my former owners little boy. I was surrendered because they thought they had the time and energy to raise a "puppy" but decided later on that they didn't. I am a really good boy, not hyper - just a puppy. I am house-trained,crate-trained and UTD on all vaccinations. I am learning the "stay" and "leave it" commands from my new foster Mom and am a very quick learner. I also learned how to swim in my foster Mom's pond - and I LOVE IT. I am very eager to please. I am your typical intelligent and lovable Lab. I get along fantastic with other dogs, children and adults. I show a lot of interest in cats, but I don't think I would hurt them. I am very well-mannered for being so young and promise to smother you with love and kisses. So if you are looking for a young, lovable, intelligent boy - I am the answer to your prayers. If you are interested in adopting me, you must have a completely fenced and secure yard. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Mater was adopted 7/23/11 by a wonderful family in MI that recently had to say goodbye to their beloved companion. Here is a picture of Mater "loaded up" and ready to ride into the sunset with his new family.

NAME: Maxx
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 11/6/03
COLOR: Black, docked & cropped
WEIGHT: 103#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Maxx. I was surrendered to rescue by the caregiver of my former owner because she was placed in a nursing facility and no longer able to take care of me. I am housetrained, well mannered, and very socialized. I get along fine with other dogs, older children and adults. I am definitely not cat friendly. I was picked up from the boarding kennel that I have been in for the last couple of months by the rescue and taken directly to the vets to be neutered, heartworm tested and get my vaccinations updated.
**UPDATE: Maxx was adopted 6/25/11 by a very loving family in Ossineke, MI. Poor Maxx lost his original home when his "Mom" was put in a nursing home, was boarded in a kennel for two months, and then was finally adopted by a wonderful gentleman in Detroit, MI. Regretfully, only two weeks after Maxx was originally adopted, his owner very unexpectedly passed away at home. Maxx remained at his adopters side for five days and nights until a family member went to the house and found out that the gentleman had passed. We went and got Maxx, who was just devastated. This adoption was meant to be. These wonderful people, who had applied for another - much younger dog - that we had available, after hearing of Maxx's loss, decided they would take him and love him and try to help heal his heart and soul. Maxx is doing fantastic in his new home, he has bonded very quickly and couldn't be happier.

NAME: Mickey
BREED: Dachshund (Miniature/Long-haired)
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 6 years old
COLOR: Red
WEIGHT: 17#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Mickey. I was surrendered by my family because with their very hectic schedule they didn't feel they had enough time for me. I am a little shy at first, but I warm up to you very quickly. I am house-trained, I get along well with other dogs and with people. I would be best suited in a home with children over ten years old because of my size. As you can tell I love food. I love to go for walks, but as you can tell, I haven't had very many of those lately. The vet thinks I could lose about four pounds and I would be at a comfortable weight. I am a very good boy, I just love to be near people and be petted. If you think you could find room in your heart and home for me I would be willing to be your life-long friend and companion. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm tested and on preventative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Mickey was adopted 7/1/11 by a very loving family in Troy, MI. He now not only has a new forever Mom & Dad, but a little 9mo red doxie sister.

NAME: Millie
BREED: Boxer
GENDER: Female (needs to be spayed when old enough)
AGE: 12 weeks old (born 1/2/11)
COLOR: Fawn, black muzzle, white blaze on chest, docked tail
WEIGHT: Approx 25#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Millie. I was surrendered by my family because they didn't have time for me. My entire life was spent being crated. I am a great little girl. I am not hyper. I am a very smart little girl. I love other dogs, kids, possibly even cats. I am very clean in my crate at my foster Mom's. In the short amount of time I have been fostered I am getting the house training down exceptionally well. I only had an accident the first couple days and that is only because my new foster Mom didn't have MY schedule down pat yet. I am a typical puppy and love to play. What I need the most is a very loving home that has room in their hearts and warm loving arms to hold me. I will make someone the best companion imaginable. I am UTD on all my puppy shots. Because I am so young, you will need to sign a spay contract stating that you will spay me when I am six months old. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.
**ADOPTION PENDING Traverse City, MI **UPDATE: Millie was adopted 4/19/11 by a very loving and compassionate family in Traverse City, MI, who had just recently and unexpectedly lost their beloved Boxer, Janee.

NAME: Orphan Annie (renamed Abby)
BREED: Gorden Setter / Golden Retriever?
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 12/1/08 (approx)
COLOR: Black w/white chest
WEIGHT: 78#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Orphan Annie. I was found and taken in by a very caring family while they were looking for my owners. Since my owners never came looking for me I have been surrendered to the rescue to find a new forever home. I am house-trained, exceptionally friendly, I love to play and I walk very well on a leash. I have the personality and a couple of the "well known" traits of a Golden Retriever - I moan like a Golden and I love to carry the leash in my mouth and walk around with it. I get along great with male dogs, but so far I don't get along as well with female dogs. My foster family has some "barn cats" and I haven't shown any interest in them at all - so I am probably cat friendly. I have been in foster care for almost three weeks now, and my foster parents think I am a fantastic girl. So if you would like to change me from an "orphan" to an "adopted" I would be forever grateful to you. I am a fairly calm girl and should adapt very easily to my new home and family. I am UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Orphan Annie was adopted 1/21/11 by a very loving family in Ann Arbor, MI. Annie not only has and new forever Mom and Dad but also has a Golden Retriever brother. She has adapted fantastically.

NAME: Pierson (renamed "Hobie" Dawg)
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Approx 3-4 years young (according to vet)
COLOR: Black with white chest blaze, docked tails and cropped ears
RESCUED: From Animal Control in Flint, MI
BIO: This is precious Pierson. He was running stray in Flint, MI when Animal Control picked him up. When found he was a deplorable matted mess. You can only imagine what he looked like before these pictures were taken. When we took him out of the shelter to relieve himself we noticed he was infested with worms, and his ears were in such terrible condition due to evidently a chronic ear infection that was never taken care of or treated. He was in such misery, he couldn't take but a few steps at a time without stopping to scratch at his ears they were bothering him so badly. Talk about Mr. Personality, with everything that he had gone thru and the misery he was in with the worms and the terrible pain and burning being caused by his ears, he is just the friendliest and most loving boy. We went to the shelter intending to put a hold on him in case he wasn't adopted. After seeing how poorly he had been taken care of by his previous owner, we just couldn't bear to leave him there where he would not be properly cared for or medicated to ease his pain. Instead, we rescued him and took him directly to our vet. Of course he was unaltered and not vaccinated or heartworm tested. He was the sweetest boy on the long drive back to the vet. He just wanted to be touched and spoken to softly. Upon arrival at the vet, my main concern was his ears and the insatiable itching that he was experiencing because of them. We had him heartworm tested, vaccinated and had his ears looked at. Because he was in such agony we made arrangements to board him at the vets until they could neuter him and have surgery done on both of his ears to try and remove the calcified lesions and open up the ear canals. This way they could medicate and clean his ears out as best they can and keep him comfortable until his surgeries were completed. Pierson appears to be housetrained, he gets along fantastic with other people and other dogs. We do not know about cats but will assume he is not good with cats for every ones safety. If you are interested in showing dear Pierson what a REAL loving home and caring family is like - please consider him. For as much misery as he was in when we rescued him - you couldn't ask for a nicer or more loving companion. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt Pierson. Not cat friendly.

SURGERY UPDATE: The surgeon decided to squeeze Pierson in four days earlier than we had originally thought. After spending hours cleaning out his ears, removing dead tissue and dried up hematomas the decision was made by the surgeon to completely close the right ear canal and remove the right ear flap, due to the irreparable damage that had been done by neglect. The left ear was bad but with pain meds and antibiotics and ear wash his left ear should heal fine. Pierson now has a clean bill of health. He has been neutered, heartworm tested (negative) and updated on all his shots. Now the only thing that Pierson needs is a loving home by a person that can see beyond his missing ear and look into his eyes and see that there is a loving and kind heart inside this wonderful boy. Once his hair grows back you won’t even be able to tell that his ear flap is missing.
**UPDATE: Pierson/"Hobie" Dawg was adopted 3/9/11 by a very compassionate woman in Dublin, OH. It was love at first sight and Hobie made the long trip home just fine. His new Mom said that even though the weather was horrible that Hobie was well worth the trip.

NAME: Piper
BREED: Australian Cattledog/Australian Kelpie (mix)
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 4/17/09 approx
COLOR: Brown & Black brindle w/ticking on feet BIO: Say hello to precious little Piper. Piper has been with us for a little over a year now. Piper was found running loose just before the holidays. Much to our surprise, when we took her in to be spayed, we found out that she was going to be a Momma in about three weeks. On January 29th, 2010 Piper surprised & blessed us with eight beautiful little puppies. For being so young she was an exceptional Momma. All of Piper’s puppies were adopted, but Piper is still patiently waiting for her forever home. Piper has been fostered at a home in Dryden, MI along with a border collie and black lab. She plays well with them and she will play with other dogs once she gets to know them. Her foster family is very active, they jog, run and they love the outdoors. Piper is house trained, crate trained, gets along great with other dogs, children and people. According to the foster Mom, Piper would make a fantastic search and rescue dog because she is so in-tune to everything that is going on around her. She is very loving, super intelligent, very agile and likes to figure out how to solve problems that she might encounter. Piper catches on to the new rules very quickly - once she realizes that you are smarter than she is. Piper would make a wonderful, loving companion for a young adult. She is also a super watch-dog. Piper is UTD on all vaccinations, heart worm negative and on heart worm preventative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt Piper. Piper is currently being fostered in Dryden, MI. Not cat friendly.
**UPDATE: Piper was officially adopted by her very loving and compassionate foster Mom on 8/16/11. Because Piper had been there for so long she felt that it would be too hard for Piper to have to go through yet another transition after going through as much as she had when we found her running stray and pregnant. Now Piper finally has a forever home that she can call her very own.

NAME: Rookie
BREED: Rottweiller
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 9/4/09
COLOR: Black and brown, docked tail
WEIGHT: approx 100#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Rookie. I am being surrendered by my family because they don't feel they have the time, space or energy to take care of me properly. While I am still young, they wanted to ensure that I would get all the love and attention that I justly deserve. I am house trained, crate trained, get along great with older children, other dogs. I have never been around cats, so to err on the side of safety we will say I do not get along with cats. I am looking for a family that has room in the heart and home to adopte me. I am a good sized boy with a really big heart. So if you are looking to adopt a faithful and loving companion that loves to play and go for walks - I am your boy. I am UTD on all vaccination and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Rookie was adopted 2/16/11 by a very loving family in Stanwood, MI. Rookie not only has children to play with, a new forever Mom & Dad, a large area to run in, but also has three canine companions, an English Mastiff, Chocolate Lab and another Rottweiler.

NAME: Rosie
BREED: Pomeranian
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 3-4 years old
COLOR: Cream and white
WEIGHT: 11#
BIO: Well hello there, my name is Rosie. I was surrendered to rescue by my elderly owner that had way too many dogs and could not take care of me properly. I am housetrained and an absolute love bug. I get along fine with other dogs and people. I love to cuddle and be loved on. I am very well mannered and sociable. Because I am so tiny and breakable it is not recommended that I go to a home with toddlers or real young children. I do not walk well on a leash - I wasn't taken for walks - but could probably be taught to walk well with a harness. I am UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. If you are interested in making a place in your heart and home for me, you must have a completely fenced and secure yard. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI
**UPDATE: Rosie was adopted 5/16/11 by a very loving family in Leonard, MI.

NAME: Rosie
BREED: Bouvier (mix?)
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 4/1/09
COLOR: Black brindle, natural ears and tail
OWNER SURRENDER: Goodrich, MI
BIO: Hello everybody, my name is Rosie. I am being tearfully surrendered by my family because one of their children has been diagnosed with a very debilitating disease. For my own safety as well as his, they have decided that I would be much safer and happier in a home where my love and companionship can be better enjoyed. I am housetrained, UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. I love to run and play and promise to make you never regret your decision if you were to adopt me. I get along with children, other dogs and even get along with their cat. So if you are interested in a loving and devoted companion and playmate - I am your girl. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. Again, I do get along with the family cat - therefore, if you have a cat that is "dog friendly" there is a good possibility that we would get along also.
**UPDATE: Rosie was adopted 3/5/11 by a very loving woman in Metamora, MI. She was just full of kisses for her new Mom. Rosie can't wait to be joining her two canine companions and cats in her new forever home.

NAME: Sebastian
BREED: Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie)/Shiba Inu mix?
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 8 months old
COLOR: Golden & Cream
WEIGHT: 16#
BIO: Hi, my name is Sebastian. I was found running stray along with my brother/companion Jake in Imlay City. We had been eating out of garbage cans for about three days when a kind soul picked us up and turned us over to the rescue. I am the most confident of the two of us, because of that it would be best if we were not adopted out together. My foster Mom thinks I have the perfect personality. My foster mom feels that there is a possibility that I am housetrained because I am very neat and clean in my crate. So I am getting a refresher course on that - just in case. I am very affectionate and get along great with people, children and other dogs.
**UPDATE: Sebastian was "officially" adopted today by his foster mom. Sebastian was being fostered on a "trial basis" to help her Bouvier get over the loss of his female Bouvier companion. Although Sebastian's presence has been a little help - it is not the solution. His foster Mom fell in love with him and decided she couldn't part with him - but is still waiting for a female Bouvier to come available. Sebastian now resides in Mt. Clemens, MI.

NAME: Snowball
BREED: American Eskimo
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Approx 6-7yro
COLOR: White and Blonde
WEIGHT: approx 29#
BIO: Hi, my name is Snowball. I was rescued by a very compassionate family that couldn't bear to see me left out in the cold with no food or shelter for one more second. My family was no longer living in the house, which no longer had heat or lights. I was tied out in the yard and on occasion someone would think to come over and bring me food or water. I am housetrained, I get along great with cats, dogs, children, adults - you name it. One of my sleeping partners was a stray cat, we tried to keep each other warm. When I was rescued, my cat buddy was rescued also. I am so grateful to have food, water, a nice warm place to sleep, and most of all companionship. If you are looking for a life-long companion that you can cuddle up with and tell all your troubles to - I am your boy. Or if you just need someone to watch TV with or someone to warm your feet while you are on the computer - I am your boy. My foster Mom thinks I am a very special boy and I deserve to go to a very special family that will appreciate and love me - as I will do to them in return. I have been so starved for love, attention and affection that I follow my foster Mom all over the place. I am not a needy boy - if you have work to do, I am perfectly content curling up in a little ball and waiting for you to have time for me. I am UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am currently being fostered in Almont, MI.
**UPDATE: Snowball was adopted 1/8/11 by a very loving family in Almont, MI. They have older children but lots of grandchildren so Snowball will be in seventh heaven. he will never want for a better home, more love or attention.

NAME: Tabitha
BREED: Shih Tzu
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born March 2008
COLOR:Tan & Black on White
BIO: We were contacted by Tabitha's owner who tearfully had to give her up because she could no longer financially care for her. Tabitha was born with a liver shunt - which is fairly common in small breed dogs (so I found out). Because our rescue did not have the capabilities of properly caring for Tabitha we turned her over to Retro Doggy Rescue to be taken care of, treated and adopted. One look at this sweet little munchkin and we couldn't pass her up. Because RDR was kind enough to take her in and care for her, we agreed to pick up any and all medical bills for her care and treatment.
**UPDATE: Tabitha was placed with a wonderful family in Bloomfield Hills, MI. They know what her problems are and are willing to keep her on a special diet and medication. The family fell head over heels for her as soon as they saw her.

NAME: Tucker
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 8 years young
WEIGHT: 100+#
COLOR: Dark Gray Brindle, docked tail, cropped ears
OWNER SURRENDER: Grand Rapids, MI
BIO: Hi there, my name is Tucker. I am being surrendered, along with my littermate/sister, India, due to my family having to relocate to a much smaller place. We were both raised on a farm with lots of room to run and play and are now temporarily staying in a much smaller house with no yard to speak of. I am house trained and crate trained. I am healthy and do have some good years ahead of me to look forward to. I like to sleep on the bed. I would also like to be a lap dog. I get on the couch and put my head in your lap and try to sit there if I can. I have a lot of love to offer. I love women and I do real well with men. I am not fond of the UPS man (who hit me on the head with his clipboard when I was six months old) or the trash man (who threw the trash can at me when I was younger). I do not do very well with young children. Because of my size I can be intimidating. I get my teeth brushed every day and I love it. I love to go to the groomer and get lots of kisses for being so good. I love to go for car rides and walks. I love to play with balls, but when I am done playing you have to put it away or I will chew it up. I am used to someone being around 24/7 but I will accept being crated if I have to be left alone for a while. I just need a family that is looking for a couple of fairly laid back Bouviers as their loving companions. My Mom and Dad (as well as my sister and I) are desperately hoping that there is a family out there looking to adopt the two of us as a package.

NAME: Webe
BREED: Boston Terrier
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 18 months
COLOR: Black & White, docked tail, erect ears
WEIGHT: 13#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Webe. I was surrendered to rescue by my elderly owner that had way too many dogs and could not take care of me properly. I am housetrained and very friendly and sociable. I get along fine with other dogs as long as they are bigger than me - otherwise I would do best as an only child because I tend to be too dominant with smaller dogs or dogs my size. I get along well with people and older children. Because I am so small it is not recommended that I go to a home with toddlers or real young children.
**UPDATE: Webe was adopted 6/4/11 by a very loving family in Bokeelia, FL.

NAME: Willow
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 8/13/08
WEIGHT: 75#
COLOR: Fawn, docked tail, natural ears
OWNDER SURRENDER: Flint, MI
BIO: Hi there, my name is Willow. I was taken in, along with another canine companion, by a very caring woman with the intentions of getting me and my companion out of an abusive situation and finding me a loving forever home - which she did. However, the person that adopted me had a bad fall and was unable to properly take care of me, so she took me back. I get along great with other animals and people on her farm except for a pig that antagonizes me constantly. I do love to play and love to chew on chew toys. I love to go for walks or just sit around and watch TV with you. When I was first rescued I definitely showed signs of being abused. I would cringe when a male raised his voice or if anyone put their hands up in the air. In the few short weeks that I have been back I have shown great improvements. I am still a little leery of strangers, but once I am shown that they won’t harm me I am willing to give them a chance. I show no signs of food aggression with small animals, just with the “spoiled” pig that doesn’t like me. I would prefer not to be outside very long by myself. I am a sweet and loving dog that deserves a really great family to love and be a companion to. I am very well behaved and intelligent. I am house trained and crate trained. If you think that you could find room in your heart and home for me - and are willing to give me the love and attention that I missed out on by my former owner - please consider me. I am micro chipped. I am both UTD on all vaccinations and heartworm negative. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am not cat friendly.
**These are not the best pictures - but it will give you an idea as to what I look like. More complimentary pictures will be posted shortly.
**UPDATE: These are the "long awaited" pictures of Willow. The previous ones were very lousy - our groomer worked miracles cleaning Willow up and she is now "drop dead gorgeous". Willow was adopted 2/10/11 by a wonderful woman in Springfield, OH. This woman has volunteered and fostered Bouvier rescues in the past & present. Willow not only has a new Mom but also has a new Bouvier sister named Lucy.

NAME: WILLOW (originally named Andrea)
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres / Labrador Retriever mix?
GENDER: Female
AGE: Born 6/25/10
WEIGHT: 15# 2 oz (on 9/16/10)
COLOR: Dark Black/Brown with a white chest blaze, dark brown eyes.
BIO: Hi, my name is Andrea. I am one of Taylor’s eleven puppies. When filling out your application please take into consideration that I am a baby and will require supervised attention at all times. If you work full time, have real young children or a hectic life schedule - a puppy is not for you. I have to be fed three times a day and cannot be crated for extended periods of time while being left home alone. My bladder and bowels are not mature enough to be able to hold my eliminations for as long as a mature dog can. I am very energetic and love to play. I have had my first three series of DHPP vaccinations, I have been wormed twice and am on heartworm preventative. I will require one more booster for my DHPP at three week intervals and will need my rabies shot when I am old enough. You will be required to sign a spay contract stating that you will have me spayed at six months old - which will be enforced. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard in order to adopt me. I am young enough that I am still cat friendly. Andrea (renamed Willow)

Was originally adopted by a family in Davison, MI. Due to personal reason they decided that they could no longer care for Willow and we took her back into rescue.
**UPDATE: Willow (originally Andrea) was adopted 2/6/11 by same loving family in Mt.Clemens, MI that adopted her sister Amber (originally named Nugget). After they adopted Amber they wished they had adopted one of her siblings to keep her and them company. When we found out that Willow was coming back we contacted them and they were overjoyed with the news. They went out a couple days later and picked up their new bundle of joy. This is a very active and loving family with two young children. We have already received numerous pictures and CD’s of the family outings and everyone is having the time of their life. Here is a picture of Willow (Andrea) at six weeks as well as a current picture of Willow at home “resting” with her sister Amber. Isn’t love bliss

NAME: Zeus
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 9/18/07
COLOR: Black, docked, natural ears
WEIGHT: approx 90#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Zeus. I was surrendered by my family because they moved into a neighborhood that does not allow fences and the local authorities said that I either had to be contained or given up. I am house-trained and get along well with other dogs and older children (10+). Because I am so agile you would have to have either a 6' fence or be very diligent when I was outside because I can and will go over a standard cyclone fence without any problem. I am a good and obedient boy and love to play. I am UTD on all vaccinations and heart worm negative. I was shuffled around quite a bit in the past few years so I am desperately looking for a permanent place to hang my leash. I do not like to be crated but will tolerate it for a short amount of time. If you are interested in adopting me you must have a completely fenced and secure yard (preferably 6' fence). I am not cat friendly. I am currently being fostered in Dryden, MI.
**UPDATE: Zeus was adopted 8/12/11 by a fantastic family in Troy, MI. Zeus not only has a new forever Mom & Dad to love and cherish him but also has a relatives dog to keep him company and play with. Zeus is in seventh heaven with a big backyard to run in and a family that will make up for all the things Zeus missed out on as a puppy.
**RECENT UPDATE: The top picture is of Zeus the day he was surrendered: stressed, confused, dirty and sad. The next two pictures are of Zeus at his very loving forever home. Zeus has transformed from a cocoon to a beautiful butterfly. What a difference love, understanding and proper care can do for a dog. Zeus could not have adopted a more loving family
